Sustainability
Farming so there is still a farm in forty years
Responsible agriculture is not separate from good agriculture. Healthy soil grows better fruit, efficient water use lowers cost, and shorter freight lanes get product to the store fresher. Southern Corporate Packers treats sustainability as an operating discipline, not a brochure.
Our commitment
What we hold ourselves to
Southern Corporate Packers' commitment to sustainability runs through every part of the operation, from farm to table. Responsible agriculture and business practice is what preserves the environment we farm in, supports the communities we operate in, and keeps the business viable for the next generation.
On the farm that means eco-friendly growing methods that prioritise soil health, water conservation and natural pest control. Off the farm it means reducing our carbon footprint by optimising transportation routes and improving energy efficiency across facilities.
How we do it
On the farm
Soil health first
Organic and regenerative techniques that build soil rather than deplete it, which is what makes acreage productive year after year.
Cover cropping
Cover crops between plantings reduce erosion, suppress weeds and put organic matter back into the ground.
Crop rotation
Rotating what goes in the ground maintains fertility and breaks pest and disease cycles without reaching for chemistry first.
Water conservation
Irrigation is managed to use less water per acre, a practical necessity in Florida and Mexico rather than an optional extra.

How we do it
Beyond the farm
Waste reduction
Comprehensive waste reduction programs across packing and shipping operations reduce both environmental impact and cost.
Route optimisation
Freight lanes are planned to cut empty miles. Fewer miles means lower emissions and fresher product on arrival.
Energy efficiency
Cooling is the largest energy load in a packing house. Improving its efficiency is where the meaningful reductions are.
Responsible sourcing
Sourcing partners are chosen for shared standards, because how they treat their employees and their communities matters.

Working together
Sustainability is a supply chain problem
No single grower solves this alone. A retailer's sustainability commitments run through its suppliers, and a supplier's run through its growing partners. Southern Corporate Packers works with customers on the parts we control together.
That includes eco-friendly packaging options across the product line. Choosing them reduces the environmental footprint of your own programs, not just ours.
If your organisation has sustainability targets that touch produce procurement, talk to the sales desk about how SCP can support them.
